Burning Havana

Swirling cigar smoke circles her neck
Because the frayed rope hung maritime males
Gray and island color washes over
The thick concrete partitions
In a metropolis
In a rustic
The place nasty, heartless criminals
Fake to own loyalty and love

One and three fives
Should be a fortunate yr
To loot and smear evil over a
Tropical moonlit paradise
Attacking a sway of peaceable hammocks
Startling traveler’s palms ideas
He may have left it on their own
He may have sailed south to Jamaica

L’Ange Exterminateur

Such turquoise magnificence
On the shores of Cayo Coco
Feral horses and clear waters
Shells that heard you coming
Did you suppose the gold could be ready?
Such grasping conceitedness fills your pockets

Jacques, you naughty boy
Appearing out in tantrum
Such unbecoming style
Your rage and grizzly dented satisfaction
Took your tough pores and skin fingers
To strike these coals of fireplace
Into the properties of empty treasures
However you weren’t completed there

The countryside of this water hugged land
Set a blaze
White-hot anger drips heated tears
Onto the dusty roads
That no Caribbean rain may equal
No sloshing bucket may douse
Extinguishing

Captain De Sores
You got here along with your two or twenty ships
Theft of Cuba the plan
How the nation laughed at you
Spaniards howling over the ocean
Silly are you
Not even your flames may soften
The hearts of the individuals
Burning Havana

Ropa Vieja (Recipe right here)

Cuba’s nationwide dish.

  • Shredded beef stewed with tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, garlic, and spices.

  • Served with white rice, black beans, and fried plantains (maduros).

  • Title means “previous garments”—due to how the meat seems to be when shredded.
