Poem: Groundhog reminiscences – Ontario OUT of DOORS

Hello!
I learn your story in Ontario OUT of DOORS about Groundhog Day and it took me again in time after I was within the Canadian Military and posted at Canadian Forces Station Carp (now the Diefenbunker Chilly Warfare Museum) and a bunch of us would exit to totally different farms within the space to hunt groundhogs. Most mentioned “sure” and informed us the place the cattle have been so there wouldn’t be any interference. One night we have been at a neighborhood restaurant after a profitable night and somebody talked about what would the groundhogs consider what we have been doing and about 20 minutes later I had penned this ditty about their ideas. There was a TV broadcast at the moment by well-known Evangelist named Billy Graham known as “My Reply,” thus the title of the poem. I hope you get pleasure from this.
Thanks for the reminiscences,
Dave
My Reply — By Billy Groundhog
I bask all day within the warming solar
However ere the evening when day is completed,
Proceeds the hunter along with his gun
And combating for my life’s begun.
I trouble not a single soul
As I sit beside my gap,
However the rifle’s crack and down I dive
Thanking God I’m nonetheless alive.
Most all my mates have met their dying
Spitting blood with their dying breath.
They, within the fields, and on the highway,
Lay so nonetheless, so lifeless, so chilly.
There is no such thing as a technique to beg or plead
The hunter’s sure with an excessive amount of greed
If only one favour could be give,
I’d ask that every one my variety could stay.
